The sad truth is that us humans do know we are ruining things, but, wrapped up in our lives and with our minds consumed by lots of other every day stuff, we are very good at forgetting and ignoring things. Walk around a hospital and you will see lots of extremely sick people with tubes coming out everywhere, but then take a walk to the main entrance (this may not be true now, but it’s only due to the ban) and you might see people smoking. The worst thing? Yes, a lot of the times these are the nurses who attend to the people with tubes, those with cancer who should have been a good enough advert to quit on their own. And it’s the same with the environment, of course. We all know the glaciers are melting, but unless one actually decides to make a rather large detour and run by our house, we are highly unlikely to give them the same amount of thought as things like the latest bands and what’s for dinner. Then we come to energy saving. Now, when it comes to energy saving not everyone has forgotten. One company who has not forgotten can be found at the following link, and they have an impressive website which features energy saving products, as well as plans for businesses to help reduce their energy bills and lots of other stuff in the pipeline: The way Enigin work is this: they have loads of consultants, and they all have their own stake in the business, and they exist all over the world. Now, while it’s true that may only be able to help you if you are in business, that doesn’t mean they can’t help you if you are just a single guy or girl. Aside from their products they also offer lots of good and simple advice, and have more blogs on this kind of thing than you can shake a stick at!

I love surfing, me. I won’t go in to why I love it, because 1) there are far too many reasons to list here, enough that an oversized beach towel times one million with one reason on each would not be enough and 2) surely everyone, even if they dislike swimming, can understand why the open ocean is such an alluring place to be?

Now, usually I don’t even consider doing other sports: surfing has always been it for me, and I have never needed to look any further. I don’t watch much TV either. But low and behold the other day I found myself doing both: watching a documentary about base-jumping that seriously blew my mind. It followed two of the UKs most prolific base jumpers, as they considered how long they would continue this lethal sport for.

Base-jumping, for the uninitiated, is when you climb to the top of a massively tall structure – skyscraper or cliff – and chuck yourself off with a parachute. For at least a while you are in free-fall, terrified, before your parachute (unless you are not one of the 1 in 6 who perish in the world’s most dangerously extreme sport) opens and you hopefully survive intact (unless you are one of the unfortunate few who’s chute gets tangled on opening and lands with both legs snapping simultaneously on impact).

There are a lot of unlesses.

Despite all that, It intrigued me as much as the idea of surfing. I’m not saying I am going to do it…but I definitely like the idea of having a go. Who knows? It’s better than being eaten by sharks.

A friend of mine, a young lady, is insanely slender. 22 years old, 6ft tall and a model she pretty much has it all in the looks department. On a side note she has a wonderful personality too… awful I know!
Anyway in a months time there is a huge catwalk show and she was at her agency recently where they measured her up, just on the off chance she needed to make any changes to fit into the clothes.
Imagine her surprise and horror when they told her to lose 3 inches off of her hip measurement. In lay mans terms they told her she had a big butt. Weirdly enough most lay man would, after carefully considering her butt, disagree with their assessment.
The next thing you know she is beating down my door saying how she needs weight loss and it has to be fast weight loss!
I told her to eat more fat.
’Say what now, are you mad?'is how I would paraphrase her response to that suggestion. I had to explain to her that her body was fueling itself on carbohydrates and that she was using some and storing some and then eating some more. ’One pound of fat is 3,500 calories'I pointed out. Very easy to put on the extra inches.
I explained that fat eaten actually sated her appetite and turned her into a fat burning machine as her body will dump excess energy rather than restoring it.
2 weeks in to eating cheese and bacon she is now raving about the benefits to all her friends.
Looks like she will be hitting the catwalk shortly after all.

So as you would probably expect, my girlfriend is also a surfer. Which is really the main reason that we get along, and although she has many amazing attributes (she really does), there are a few that make her a little though to deal with sometimes.

One of these things is that in her house everything has to be exactly right. If I come over and move something on one of the shelves she will walk into the room and see it right away and move it back. Although this game is really amusing for me at times, if I push it too far I normally get one heck of an earful.

So anyway, her house phone gave up one day, and being a person who needs everything perfect in her house, she decided that we needed to dedicate a day of shopping to finding a new phone and I cannot even begin to tell you how many Samsung phones for sale we looked at before she decided that none of them were right, they wouldn’t fit in with the house and the ascetics of modern telephones are absolutely all wrong (as you may have guessed when she is not surfing, she is an artist).

So we gave up, and chalked the experience up to another day wasted to the shopping gods. But on the way home, for some reason we decided to go to this little flea market that we had heard about, and low and behold there was a wall mounting phone from the 1930s which was (according to her) perfect! She loves it even though it now takes her roughly 2 minutes to dial my number due to it being a rotary phone.

So all of this has led me to one conclusion, I am going to stop looking, because as far as I can see that’s when all the good things find you. It certainly did in this case, and to be honest, it’s also how I met her in the first place–

This post at Enigin brings up an interesting point (not something which is very new, but interesting nonetheless).

And the point is this: our planet is rapidly being affected by Global Warming. The weather is changing and slowly, yet surely, our world is undergoing a slow and steady transformation.

But here’s where we have a problem–

Not even the scientists in the know can make up their mind if that statement is true or not. Opinions differ from day to day. Some say that the planet is changing and that we are the cause of it, while others are adamant that the world has always been changing, and that us humans haven’t been around nearly long enough to really work out what is going on.

Which side are you on?

Personally I agree with the author of the post at Enigin: in the last few years we have bombarded this planet with all kinds of fumes, smoke and rubbish. We have filled seas with oil and bled petroleum in to the atmosphere at a frightening speed. There are places in the oceans, for example, that are filled with rubbish: floating islands of plastic that go on for as far as the eye can see. Now, ask yourself, how would you feel if you had a great big pond and someone came along and filled it with junk? Somehow I don’t think you’d be very happy about that.

With all that in mind it’s no wonder that people are predicting the end of the world on a daily basis, is it?

…and welcome to my brand new personal blog! This is just a place for me to talk about love, life and the greatest pursuit of all, catching the waves. But what the hell does 120PjSW actually mean you ask, well for the answer to that I would like to refer you to my “about us” section at the bottom of this page that they made me fill out. If you are too lazy to scroll the page down then let me do you a favour; “So what exactly is 120PjSW? Well 120 SW is the West Coast, where all the surfers live, and we all know what PJs are. So there it is, Dreams from the West Coast.”

Enjoy!
